Live Earth

Had a dengue scare last week. Fever on Wednesday, Sunday and Monday. Rash-like symptoms on Sunday to Monday too. Thank God it turned out to be nothing much. =)

Youth Sunday on the first of July seemed much more muted than the ones we had the previous two years. I don't know why. Still, it was good to see some of our younger youths bring their friends. And Hannah and Sarah turned up too! Breakfast fellowship and ushering were okay too, and what's more, there was free ice-cream after service too! Leftovers from the Synod Youth Games no doubt. Haha. See photographs in previous entry for more details!

Sunday was also Singapore Armed Forces Day, and we all celebrated 40 years of National Service. Not that I care very much about that, but hey, at least we NSFs are all getting $50 more a month now, and the special edition of The Sunday Times ran one whole section on the history of NS. Pretty interesting to see how far we've come. While technology and hardware may have improved tremendously over the years, many techniques and traditions have not. And the software (i.e. the men behind the machines) has become a lot softer (no pun intended). Hardship has certainly become a thing of the past. Haha.

Caught Transformers on Wednesday. Finally man. And I must say it's really worth it lah. Very much impressed by the vast amount of firepower at the special ops team's disposal. Low-flying A10 Thunderbolt attack planes and the massive 105mm howizter on board the modified AC-130 bombing and strafing the poor scorpion-like Decepticon (I don't know its name) in the desert scene in Qatar. And in the end, the thing just wouldn't die. Then there was Starscream ripping up the F-22 Raptors which were en route to attack Megatron. So much money wasted! To think how much one F-22 costs... What's more, there was also a scene where the Defence Secretary John Keller and Sector 7's Agent Simmons engaged Frenzy in a furious gunfight. Imagine our Defence Minister doing the same thing, without his bodyguards.

Went to "observe" 258SA's 8th In-Camp Training on Thursday afternoon. Their second last session before they go ROD. Learnt a few new tricks here and there, and also, how we'd most probably look like some ten years from now. Yeah, as old reservist NS men. Haha.

Anyway, thank God I've got today off. Saturday'll be the much publicised, highly anticipated global Live Earth concerts. It'll also be a very auspicious 07.07.07. While the whole of Singapore's been encouraged to wear green, I'll be forced to wear camouflaged green, with the whole day spent covering safety at Nee Soon Range. And I've got guard next Saturday too. Two Saturdays gone! Ah well.

Now we know why training for 2.4 k.m is sooo important...
